The Dishman Quarry Preserve

The rock below holds an excellent imprint of the bark of the Lepidodendron tree; the diamond shaped pattern represents the scars from leaves that were shed, with each diamond representing the base of a leaf.
See  http://museum.gov.ns.ca/fossils/gallery/specimen/982131.htm for more information.

Striations on the rock, visible with the naked eye, represent a twice-daily tidal deposit of sediment with a continuous record of 10yrs, making it the 2nd longest continuous tidal record in the world, after a 30-yr site in Australia.
See  http://igs.indiana.edu/geology/ancient/tidaltime/index.cfm for more information.

Persons interested in visiting this site should contact the SLT office or property Steward.

Please do not remove fossils from this site; many have been taken and it is a loss to the rest of us; try collecting fossil photographs instead so others may do the same.
